MIAMI ~ October 16, 2018 ~ On Saturday November 3, 2018, 10am-4pm, the Opa-locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC) Business Fund presents its first Small Business Bazaar at Country Corners, 15060 N.W. 22nd Ave, Opa-locka, FL 33054, featuring local farmers and small businesses. The community is encouraged to come out and start their Christmas shopping while supporting local entrepreneurs. The bazaar will feature a wide range of goods including fresh fruits and vegetables, clothing, jewelry, eyewear, soaps, handmade goods, and prepared foods. In addition, the bazaar will feature a live cooking class by Opa-locka native and world renowned Chef Keith Lorren, affectionately known as "The King of Spice” and maker of the Spice King Collection of flavorful gourmet spices. Country Corners, the venue for the bazaar, is a multi-generational family-based business in Opa-locka that sells fresh produce and meats. The business was started by June Johnson in the early 80’s when she set up shop with five bunches of collard greens for sale, making Country Corners a stronghold for vitality, health and resilience in the community. Today her son, Mr. James Dixon runs the business and is determined to carry on her legacy of entrepreneurship and grit. The bazaar is open for the entire community to enjoy and families are welcome to have fun, learn a new recipe for the holidays, eat great food and enjoy the colorful holiday atmosphere while shopping the open-air marketplace. The OLCDC Business Fund was established to provide businesses in under resourced neighborhoods with access to capital, technical assistance and business support. The small business bazaar is only one of Business Funds’ initiatives to help small businesses this holiday season. Additionally, the fund is hosting a Google class to help entrepreneurs market their business for the holiday season. The Fund has also partnered with the American Express annual Small Business Saturday (November 24) initiative, which is traditionally held the Saturday after Black Friday to encourage shopping from small businesses in the community.
